The Green Vase

by Louis Jaquet

Oil on Canvas with Gold Leaf

32” x 24”

2006

French Expressionist Artist Louis Jaquet (1944)

When an artist has style, what he paints isn’t important. Works of art last because of the beauty of their form, not the notions they communicate. Louis Jacquet learned to work with exemplary synthesis on certain details. The final assignment of his paintings is to make people feel content, even though they are born from a deep melancholy of a wounded poet.
Louis Jaquet’s paintings belong to the trend referred to as conceptual. Based essentially on an idea, it is neither descriptive nor narrative, but an elaboration of a thought related to certain realities. We see disquieting elements where no order, in theory, should be subverted. It is the victory of the light over shade, of spirit over matter, of thought over action - a triumph that springs from the very nature of man, called to build up his existence among wonderful realities.

‍ ‍A Curator’s Take: Louis Jaquet’s body of work is distinct for its bold and expressive style that is full of character and charm. The paintings display a distinctive European flare, and are not only valuable in a collector’s sense, but can fill a space wonderfully with their bold and colorful presence. A visual treat- these paintings are simple, happy, and sophisticated.
