Cornfield captures the ever-changing light of the California coast with loose, confident brushwork and a luminous palette of soft blues, peach, lavender, and gold. His impressionistic approach distills each seascape to its emotional essence — the quiet drama of open water, expansive skies, and the fleeting warmth of coastal light. Each painting feels both intimately observed and universally felt, bringing the meditative calm of the Pacific into any space.
John has been painting landscapes for over twenty years, drawing inspiration from an earlier generation of Southwest and California plein air landscape painters. Working with acrylic on canvas in the studio, John’s images are composites of photos taken from favorite coastal, inland and desert nature settings. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries in Santa Monica, Sonoma, Santa Barbara, La Quinta and San Diego, and hang in permanent collections at institutions such as UCLA Hospital and Arizona State University.
