About Niloufar

Niloufar Fallahfar is an Iranian artist currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Art at Michigan State University. She explores themes of identity, memory, and socio-political challenges, especially in relation to the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Iran. Her work often merges three-dimensional sculptural elements with painting, reflecting her deep interest in the narrative possibilities within art. Fallahfar’s artistic practice delves into abstract, yet figurative forms, symbolizing cultural resistance and personal stories.

She has exhibited her work in reputable nationally and internationally venues, including solo exhibitions in Gallery 101 at Michigan State University and Bevan Gallery in Tehran, Iran. Her paintings were also recently chosen for inclusion in the Art in the Legislature Program at Michigan’s Capitol. Additionally, Fallahfar’s work has been showcased in Paris, where she was recognized for her innovative approach at various art festivals in Iran.

As an Iranian artist, my work delves into the complex relationship between identity, memory, and socio-political realities, particularly focusing on the lives of women and girls in Iran. Through a combination of painting and three-dimensional sculptural elements, I challenge the boundaries of narrative in art, creating abstract yet figurative forms that embody layers of personal and collective histories.

I strive to uncover an uncorrupted authenticity within Iran’s rich cultural heritage, parts of which have been destroyed by the ruling regimes. Today, I find myself engaged in a process similar to an archaeological excavation, searching for cultural roots and creating new symbols. One such symbol is the peacock, representing the reflective beauty and grandeur of Iranian architecture. At the same time, I wrestle with the complexities of migration and cultural dislocation. My works often resemble treasure maps—metaphors for hidden secrets of revolutions, resistance, and the relentless hope for a return to grandeur. This hope, like resisting a flood, endures. I aim to create spaces where loss and the renewal of identity coexist, highlighting the tension between the desire for change and the constraints imposed by history.

Through my art, I seek to transcend the personal and address universal themes of resilience, transformation, and the human condition. Each piece invites the viewer to engage with the layers of meaning embedded within textures and forms, creating a visual dialogue between the past and the present, and between the self and the collective experience.
