Artist Biography
Ken Ramirez is a self-taught digital artist and uses software and graphics to create pictures of subjects that interest and inspire him including culture, history, humanity, politics, and nature. He loved art from an early age. Light, colors, shapes, and patterns fascinated him, but not thinking he had artistic talent, he pursued other interests such as music and sports.
Ken worked for a number of years, none of them as an artist. He taught English after college, labored in restaurants and a hotel, then had a long run in the computer world as a multimedia developer, coder, and technical trainer.
Several years ago, Ken felt a strong desire to express himself visually and started working with digital tools. He is just getting started with art, exploring different styles and themes, and is excited to wake up every day and create.
Artist Statement
When I was a boy growing up in New York, a teacher organized a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was memorable. I was particularly drawn to a large, plain canvas that took up almost an entire wall in one of the galleries. In the middle of the canvas was a tiny dot. That was it, and I loved it! The idea that art could be abstract fueled my imagination and began my quest to discover more examples of this "new" expression in addition to great works from other genres. Since then, art has been a constant joy and inspiration. Today I try to create my own digital art. It’s challenging, but when it works, deeply rewarding.
