Artist Biography:
Sheryl was born and raised in Philadelphia where she attended Moore College of Art, and received her BFA in graphic design. She moved to Calabasas California where she changed her focus to fine art. Sheryl spent many years as a public school art teacher where she shared her love of art with elementary school students. She has currently shown her work in 11 exhibitions. She spends most of her time creating, and cooking for family and her golden retriever Rio.
Artist Statement:
My abstract work emerges from intuition, movement and from the materials themselves. Rather than depicting the literal world, I explore sensation-how color can hold memory, and how texture can suggest emotion. Each piece definitely begins without a fixed outcome, allowing process to guide composition and meaning. Layering is also central to my artwork. Marks are built, obscured and revealed. I'm interested in the experience between intention and accident, where unexpected forms create new visual pathways. My aim is to create environments that feel open, where the viewer can project their own experience and interpretations. I have always loved the fluidity of abstract painting. It feels like freedom.
