Artist Bio:

Sangram Biswas is a self-taught photographer from India, currently based in California, USA. Born in 1990, he is formally trained as a physicist and later chose photography as a path.  His photographic practice is grounded in being out in the world and present enough to notice and respond to sights and things that draw his attention. In that sense, his work remains rooted in a documentary approach.

Born and raised in rural Bengal, Sangram draws from his ancestral history and his experiences of cross-cultural dislocation. The themes in his photography emerge organically from what he encounters and reflects upon. He is currently focused on long-form storytelling through ongoing photo projects and publishing.

Artist Statement:

"I often meet ravens on the trail.
Sitting on the corner of a hut,
flying from one tree to the next, just ahead.
Riding the wind, their wings flapping as they sail above the horizon.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s me they come to visit.
Perhaps I’m the one seeking them.
I like their company.
I tell myself they’re keeping watch."
