Statement: I create whimsical narrative art in acrylic paintings that blend realism and surrealism. Inspired by my own adventures in the natural world, I use anthropomorphic characters to tell visual fairytales that explore themes of conservation and being your best self. The scenes unfold in storylines that blend serenity and humor with a touch of darkness and nostalgia. Through this storytelling, I invite viewers to reconnect with their inner child and see themselves reflected in the creatures I create. My goal is to foster a personal connection to nature rooted in empathy and nonsensical joy. Each piece in the included collection tells its own tale of nature nourishing and nurturing. The stories - though whimsical - provide a new perspective on nature and reflect healthy connections to it. Nature feeds us, fills us with wonder, calls us to exploration and adventure, and clears the city clutter from our minds to remind us what is truly important.
Biography: Paul Woggy is a San Diego-based artist known for his nature‑infused whimsical surrealism. A self‑taught acrylic and pastel painter, he creates visual fairytales where anthropomorphic creatures explore themes of conservation, belonging, and being your best self. Before becoming a full‑time artist, Woggy spent more than a decade as an engineering leader. During that time he built his art practice inspired by tales he collected as a wilderness enthusiast. That analytical discipline still fuels his artistic style, and his art provides him with more of the connection to community and nature he had craved. Woggy’s award‑winning art has been exhibited at numerous juried shows, including at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library and Ashton Gallery. His work has been highlighted by Malcolm Warner and the San Diego Union‑Tribune. He is currently developing a public art installation for downtown Chula Vista. His pieces are held in private collections throughout the United States.
