Puzzling Dementia
by Lois Trader
Wood, Foam Clay, Clay, Collage Art, Paper Mache, Resin
10" x 9" x 3"
This art piece, “Puzzling Dementia,” vividly and intricately represents the complexity and confusion associated with dementia. The face is fragmented, with multiple layers and textures creating a collage-like effect. I felt like this trying to figure out how to bring a smile to my mom's face daily.

I create sculptural works that explore resilience, vulnerability, and the human experience. My journey as an artist began as a means of healing, transforming personal grief into deeply emotive, thought-provoking pieces. Working with mixed media, found objects, and unconventional materials, I strive to give form to often unspoken emotions—loss, hope, perseverance, and transformation. My sculptures invite viewers to engage, reflect, and connect with their narratives. Whether through bold, surreal figures or whimsical, music-inspired pieces, my work seeks to evoke raw emotion and curiosity. Each creation is a testament to the power of art in navigating life's complexities.
