Statement: In surfing, timing is everything. There is a critical moment when the wave’s energy reaches a breaking point and the water begins to tumble into a cascade of overwhelming force. My art is an exploration of this tipping point. I seek to capture that moment when predictability gives way to uncertainty: at one moment, the ocean is smooth and undulating; in the next, it becomes a swirl of form and force. Each piece in this collection is an articulation of the transition of tranquility into turmoil — and the beauty, power, and uncertainty of what comes next. I created these images at a time of social unrest — tensions are rising and established norms are being abandoned in pursuit of rapid change. Hopefully, viewers will wrestle with the implications of rashly confronting the tipping point. While examining the dynamic beauty of waves, I also encourage reflection on the broader issues of motion, change, and consequences.
