Statement:

My work is rooted in stillness. Whether it’s a quiet shoreline, a lone animal in motion, or the soft glow of a fading sky, I am drawn to the moments in nature that feel both powerful and peaceful. As an artist and active-duty Navy sailor, painting has become a way for me to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the natural world.

The pieces I am submitting—Silent Migration, Silent Territory, and Silent Water—are part of my developing “Silent Nature” collection. Each painting reflects a narrative of movement and presence: the buffalo, the coyote, and the water all representing paths of endurance, transition, and calm. My goal is to translate these emotions into color and light, offering viewers a sense of quiet reflection through the landscapes and wildlife that inspire me.

Biography:

Joshua Orozco is a Filipino-American oil painter based in Chula Vista, California. Balancing an active-duty career in the U.S. Navy with a growing artistic practice, he creates work that reflects moments of grounding and clarity found in nature. His paintings are characterized by atmospheric palettes, minimal forms, and symbolic wildlife subjects that explore themes of resilience, transition, and emotional stillness.

Joshua’s work has been exhibited in national juried shows at Ashton Gallery and in curated exhibitions at The Studio Door, gaining recognition for its quiet storytelling and refined simplicity. Influenced by both his cultural background and experiences in high-pressure military environments, he approaches painting as a meditative process that reconnects him to the rhythms of the natural world.

He continues to develop a cohesive body of work that invites viewers to slow down, reflect, and experience the beauty of subtle, understated moments in nature.
