Gluttonous Voracity
by Jorge Canto
Oil on Canvas
18” x 24’ x 1”
BIOGRAPHY
Jorge Canto is a self- thought artist. His early work was made in graphite, ink and charcoal, currently his paintings are being produced in color using oil, pastels and mixed media.
He was born in Mexico and finished his education in the United States where he currently lives. He has a BS in Architecture and Environmental Design. He has been creating paintings in his home studio and this is the beginning of the sharing of his artwork. The current theme of his paintings is about humanity’s misunderstanding that their divine gift of dominion over all things is not the same thing as domination.
In the future other themes will be explored as he continues to create additional artwork.
STATEMENT
My surrealistic art style reflects my personal thoughts about exploring the vices of mankind, the effects and consequences that these vices place upon the existence of all living species and the use and abuse of our planet Earth. Historical and Theological events are also inspirational drivers of my paintings.
My artwork is imaginative and is my intent that the viewers’ imagination is stimulated when they look at it. In most of my art compositions, I paint multiple characters not obvious at first glance but that will reveal themselves to the viewer depending on the related distance from the viewer point of view and their focusing on the artwork.
It is my hope that my art becomes in its message, a point of reflection for the viewer and in its execution an object of discovery where up to certain point, the longer the viewer looks at my painting the more my painting reveals.
