Horizon of Hope

$2,500.00

by Kim Box

Mixed Media

30” x 40”

$2,500

This artwork was created with a profound love of all things about the ocean and beaches.  I grew up in San Diego and spent a lot of time at the beach.  This artwork is a lot of layers of texture and color to create the movement of the wave along with the beach and ocean.  The sunset is a colorful expression of the day coming to an end but with the promise of the next day and the hope that it brings.  I created this artwork on canvas with layers of texture then acrylic paint and acrylic ink to bring it to life.  My intention was to create a feeling of serenity that is unique to the horizon across the ocean.

Artist Biography:

The artistic journey of Kim Box began over 30 years ago with watercolors, eventually evolving into a passionate exploration of mixed media. Over time, her practice has expanded beyond traditional paint to embrace richly layered textures and unconventional materials. Guided by intuition, each piece begins with a spark of inspiration and unfolds organically— an expressive process that reflects her deep connection to the abstract and the emotional.

Kim's work is distinguished by its tactile surfaces and dynamic compositions. She blends materials such as plaster, decomposed granite, and fiber paste with upcycled and found metal objects, transforming canvas and wood into multidimensional works of art. Her creative process is both meditative and playful, rooted in curiosity and a desire to share the joy she finds in texture, color, and form.

Originally from San Diego, Kim carries with her a lifelong love of the ocean and beaches. Now living near the Sierra in Northern California, she draws continual inspiration from both coastal and mountain landscapes the interplay of sand, surf, rivers, and granite. Outdoor adventures and moments of solitude often ignite the ideas that shape her work, revealing themselves through layered textures and nature-infused palettes. Each creation is a joyful conversation between material and spirit, cultivated in the quiet rhythm of her studio.

Artist Statement:

I create with many different types of textures and mediums. It is exciting to begin a new piece with an initial idea and then go on a journey of creation that ends with a new expression of colors and form. I love looking at the mediums and tools that I use that are outside the traditional art supplies which give a unique outcome to my creations. My best work comes from a place deep inside that also connects in a meaningful way with those who view it.
