High Tide

$600.00

by Susan Alberts

Acrylic on Canvas w/ Resin Finish

36” x 24”

$600

High Tide is acrylic on canvas with a resin finish and can be seen as an overhead perspective of the ocean.  The various shades of blue flowing in irregular, fluid forms give a sense of movement and gradually lighten toward a soft, white horizon, while a warm sandy band anchors the bottom like a shore. The resin finish enhances High Tide by adding a clear, water-like depth which intensifies the colors and unifies the piece.

Artist Biography:

Susan Alberts is a resident of Southern California, a location that provides a great deal of inspiration for her ocean and water themed paintings. In addition to painting, Susan also finds enjoyment creating pieces with everyday items, such as furniture and art pieces crafted from wine corks. Susan received an MFA in Multimedia from the University of Colorado Denver. While professionally educated in digital media, Susan was able to use those skills and a lifetime of creative endeavors to transition from working in front of a screen to working on a canvas. Several of Susan’s pieces have been included in juried shows in her previous hometown of Phoenix. Susan is currently experimenting with subjects other than water, but the color blue continues to play heavily into most her art pieces.

Artist Statement:

After my mom’s death in 2009 I took a trip to the ocean to grieve and heal. I stood on the shoreline contemplating the meaning of life when the sunset ‘spoke’ to me and I felt peace. It was that huge moment - and my attempt to capture it - that led to my first large scale painting….of the sunset, of course. It was then that I began to focus on art full time. I love to paint large, sometimes mixing acrylic with other materials or just using leftover house paint on pieces of plywood. Most of my paintings have a water element. The powerful yet peaceful nature of water resonates with a part of me looking to express itself. I also love experimenting. I’ve utilized my large collection of wine corks to build everything from display bowls to side tables, guitars to wall art. An upbringing in a creative household and an MFA degree in fine art-Multimedia serves as the foundation for the art that births its way through me today.
