Ginette Gaskin is a Los Angeles-based artist known for her vibrant, impressionistic oil paintings. Originally from Toronto, Canada, she was raised alongside film and TV sets, where she would imagine herself as different people in exotic scenes. Her creative journey began with a love for human nature, depicting stories through portrait drawings. Later, her artistic skills and years walking through movie sets aligned, leading to experimenting in production design and painting set backgrounds through a film studio in Toronto.

When Ginette moved to California, she worked for a non-profit where she devoted her time to helping people in the community across Southern California. This experience of working to help others greatly influences the nature of her art today. Choosing to depict moments that bring joy, through nostalgia or nature. She currently paints full-time out of her home studio, quickly expanding her portfolio and developing a unique style of contemporary impressionism.

​Working primarily in oil, I paint thick brushstrokes using a wet-on-wet technique that builds dynamic, textured paintings. Inspired by life’s moments of pure joy, when I think of these moments, the smells, colors, and conversations come to mind. I want my art to show all of these things. I take images from my travels and life experiences and reimagine the composition to enhance the beauty and create a standpoint from the viewer so they become part of the experience. My subjects range from towering palm trees and rolling hills to half-empty wine glasses at your dinner table. Each piece taps into a core memory. Influenced by artists like Erin Hanson, Van Gogh, and Monet, my work embodies a vibrant, contemporary approach to impressionism. I strive to make paintings that inspire reflection on the good things we often lose sight of in the overwhelm of our daily lives.
