Don't Fence Me In was inspired by a trip to Arizona to search for wild horses. We were fortunate enough to see some near the Salt River, and the sight was truly captivating. This oil painting captures the excitement I felt witnessing the wild horses and their incredible sense of freedom.
Artist Bio:
Many years ago, Therese started her artistic career creating and designing custom stained-glass windows. Her creations were sold and installed in dozens of homes throughout the Los Angeles area. After a distinguished software career, she returned to artistic endeavors. A self-taught artist, Therese specializes in creating paintings and mixed-media works inspired by her love of nature and color harmony. Even though she is legally blind, Therese has enough sight to create works of art to brighten others’ lives. Therese was awarded a 2018 Arts and Accessibility Grant by the NADC.
Artist Statement:
Exploring the natural world and illuminating social justice, feed my artistic vision. Even though my actual vision is limited, I see in my mind’s eye and connect to my hand’s movement to express that vision with bold colors, textures and expressive strokes. When we observe the world around us, what we see is light reflecting on objects, shapes and textures. Light is vital, powerful, but art does exist without light. As the light fades from my eyes, let art by my reflection.
