Brandin Barón is a San Francisco-based visual artist. After receiving his M.F.A from the University of California, San Diego, he has worked professionally as a fine and digital artist, graphic designer, and costume designer for theatrical productions, and design scholar. From 2006-2018, he was a Professor of Design at The University of California, Santa Cruz. Recent Group Exhibitions (highlights): Attleboro Arts Museum, Alexandria Museum of Art, Batesville Area Arts Council, Baton Rouge Center for Contemporary Art, Brownsville Museum of Art, Buckham Gallery, Coos Art Museum, The De Young Museum, First Street Gallery (NYC, NY), Gallery 110 (Seattle, WA), The Henry Ford, Hudson Valley Museum of Contemporary Art, Norman Rockwell Museum, Silvermine Gallery (New Canaan, CT), Springfield Art Museum, Susquehanna Art Museum, TAG Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), Torpedo Factory Art Center (Alexandria, VA), Touchstone Gallery (Washington, D.C), Viewpoint Photographic Arts Center, Viridian Artists.

Unearthing subconscious anxieties surrounding political unrest, the Covid19 Pandemic, and our relationship to historical turmoil has been an important part of my recent art-making process. My artworks are “staged” through the process of layering my original photographic and hand-rendered imagery with stock photography and digital textures through Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator. I utilize screen printmaking techniques onto paper and/or vellum, in a final output of 2-3 prints per image. Final prints are then embellished with hand-applied media, including: ink, gouache, pastel, acrylic, collage/assemblage and/or enamel.
