Artist statement:

Nature’s stillness and technology’s precision are often seen as opposites, but in my work, they blend in harmony. Working with both, I create functional ceramics that enrich everyday rituals like eating and gathering. My nature inspired pieces are designed to open a window to a deeper connection with the world and each other.

I began exploring forms that align with nature in 2021 but I have always been drawn to the idea of unity between the natural world and the human one. My vision is to capture a portion of that unity in every piece that I create. I find a special connection to wind carved sandstone canyons, buttes, and ventifacts found in natural environments. Much of my inspiration comes as I immerse myself in these natural environments. The natural curves, arches and undulating patterns in both living organisms and time changed stone, fascinate and inspire my work. Though delicate, I expect viewers to interact, connect and utilize my work in their daily lives.

My process mirrors nature’s own refinement. Ideas evolve through experimentation, iteration, and integration of modern tools such as CAD modeling, digital fabrication, and 3D printing. Through this merging of digital capability and organic inspiration, I aim to create pieces that feel both intuitive and deeply considered. My work seeks to find harmony between an advancing technological society, and the rich history and life of this world. Looking ahead, I plan to continue pushing the boundaries of form and material while staying rooted in the organic, grounding qualities that first drew me to clay.
