by Catherine Presmyk

11” x 14”

Matted and Framed

Location: San Diego, California

Artist Biography:

Catherine (CJ) Presmyk is a lifelong photo enthusiast. She developed an interest in photography at an early age in Chicago, when gifted a Kodak Instamatic camera at age ten. She took photography classes in high school and college to further her knowledge of the craft, working with a GAF L-CM 35mm format SLR camera. Over the years, she combined her photography interest with family excursions, while working full time at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Since her retirement from UCSD in 2019, CJ pivoted to photography full time, and is an active member of the Poly Photo Camera Club of San Diego, and Women in Creative Photography, among others. While CJ enjoys photographing the natural and built environments, she is an equal opportunity photographer with an eye for any subject matter that can tell an interesting story.

Artist Statement:

I am motivated by the belief that beauty is not only found in grand landscapes or extraordinary moments, but also in the subtle, everyday scenes that surround us. The rhythms of daily life, the play of light on a building’s façade, the quiet elegance of a tree’s silhouette - these are moments I seek to uncover and share with the viewer. My aim is to highlight the extraordinary in the ordinary, to encourage viewers to pause and appreciate the decisive moments and interesting details that are woven into the fabric of the world we live in

Through my lens, I want to inspire a deeper awareness of the world around us, to celebrate the quiet magnificence of the people, places, and moments we often take for granted. I believe that in every corner of life there is a story waiting to be told. My motivation is to capture these stories and present them in a way that sparks curiosity, fosters appreciation, and invites others to see the world through a different, or perhaps a more mindful lens.
