Statement: I only paint what I love and am always excited when starting a new painting. Living in a very rural area of Washington State, I am inspired by the intense beauty around me. I love painting dramatic skyscapes and landscapes, as well as have fun with imaginary, fantastical scenes, and love to paint meaningful portraitures. My style is colorful and bold and I am always trying to paint looser. I love the smell and texture of oil paints, and absolutely adore the mess. I am drawn to the beauty of natural light in all of its shades of brilliance and darkness, sometimes juxtaposed with the drama of artificial light. It is always about light and dark, and of course, color.
Biography: As a child, Anne always won art competitions and loved art classes, but chose to join the US Navy after high school in order to learn a "dependable career" - per her mother. During the many years of working in a variety of technical fields both in the US Navy and as a Civilian, sneaking in a personal art project here and there, Anne had the opportunity to go back to school for Fine Art and Graphic Design. She earned a BFA in Visual Communications from Northwest College of Art & Design in 2013. She owned Anne Alden Design/Bluff House Design, her own “One Stop Shop”, as a Graphic and Interactive Designer, retiring to paint full time in 2022. She loves learning new techniques and methods to make art and is presently focusing on acrylic and oil painting. Anne constantly watches streamed art specials and programs for inspiration and ideas.
