An Exhibition of Paintings by Louis Jaquet

For more than five decades, French artist Louis Jaquet has transformed a life shaped by travel, observation, and artistic exploration into a distinctive visual language of color, gesture, and form.

Born in Paris in 1944, Jaquet's artistic journey began within the traditions of European craftsmanship before leading him toward painting and the freedom of modern expression. His travels through Europe, the Middle East, India, Israel, and beyond became an important source of inspiration, continually expanding his visual vocabulary and deepening his understanding of the world around him.

In Gestures of Memory, familiar subjects—women, flowers, landscapes, city streets, still lifes, and scenes drawn from cultures and places encountered throughout his life—are transformed through bold color, expressive lines, simplified forms, and layers of symbolism. Rather than simply recording what he sees, Jaquet filters the visible world through experience and recollection, allowing memory and imagination to reshape the subject.

This approach is reflected in the artist's own words: “Memory becomes a gesture in painting.” For Jaquet, painting is a language of signs through which experience can be distilled into movement, color, and form.
